Going Deeper: Backbends & Splits Workshop

July 23 from 5-7pm at the Alo store in Williamsburg, brooklyn

241 Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg NY

Join internationally renowned yoga and movement teacher Irene Pappas for a 2 hour workshop to safely deepen your backbending practice. This workshop is perfect for those with yoga or movement experience but are looking for new ways to build strength and flexibility for things like splits, wheel, scorpion, and much more. While contortion can be a scary word, think of this as an exploration of deeper flexibility with a focus on building strength and active flexibility in a sustainable way.

Irene will include a total body warm up, strength and conditioning work, specific flexibility drills, and workshop style breakdown of poses and transitions. She will also teach you how to evaluate your own body to figure out which drills will be most effective and useful.

Those who wouldn’t consider themselves naturally flexible will learn new techniques to use their strength to access flexibility, and those who are naturally flexible/hypermobile will learn how to create more stability in order to prevent injury and safely explore their range of motion. Options and suggestions for many different bodies, though this workshop is not for those who are new to yoga/movement.

Prerequisite: the ability to do wheel pose
